Portraits of Past has said many times they hate being called Emo, but the Emo community continues not to care. They love their music, because it fits so nicely into the Emo category with its high-caliber, crashing beauty. They have epic length songs which build to surprise stops and which contain long indie-rock guitar portions that break the melody into its fundamental parts, and then come to a huge, exploding finale.
“All the President’s Men” is one of the few entertaining Emo compilation albums. Especially of note is its demo version of “Breather Resist” (also featured on the band’s reunion EP).
Heroin has a self-titled CD, which features chaotic noise and screaming lyrics that tell of ultimate pain and disillusionment. It’s the ultimate in Emo music.
