Nation of Ulysses’ first CD / LP was “Plays Pretty for Baby“  introduced us to Emo-as-stylish-trend, but it was their second LP where they really caught hold and found a niche for themselves.  That second one had excellent songs with distinct trumpet blasts and stylish jazz interludes. All of their music has a somewhat revolutionary sound to it.

Still Life had an LP entitled “From Angry Heads with Skyward Eyes,” and there’s rumor of a possible upcoming CD version of it, by Ebullition Records.  Still Life, unlike most other Emo bands, stuck faithfully with their palm-mute guitars.  Their vocals were distinct in taking a gut-wrenching, loud scream to the next level.  This record has epic-sized songs with never-ending intensity.  While the earlier 7″ tended to be moshier than later recordings, it was still unique.  The later songs focused largely on dark, melodic bass-lines.
